BIG ART SHOW DC #1:

Saturday, April 28th
@ The Rock And Roll Hotel
1353 H Street, NE,
Washington, DC 20002

Check their site here: here!

THEIR "MISSION STATEMENT":

BIG ART SHOW gives local, unknown, and independent artists an opportunity to perform and display their work to their peers and to the public. Run by a collective of artists and volunteers based out of the greater New York area, BIG ART SHOW is driven by a passion to create an environment devoid of the pressures and insincerities of the public media.

BIG ART SHOW creates community both locally and nationally by having traveling art events which invite visual artists from any location to display their work, attend the shows, and network with other artists. Similarly, BIG ART SHOW provides an opportunity in which lesser-known
musicians can play in front of larger and more varied audiences."

This is a great opportunity to showcase local talent. Please join the Charming Vices blog & Craft Mutiny in promoting this event.

What I bought on Etsy today!

I found this awesome mixed media painting on Etsy today and just LOVE it! This piece of art will look so lovely on my wall next to my other "outsider art". I knew I had to have it when I saw the materials and the subject: Ace of Anatomical Hearts.

Many of my necklaces feature pendants with illustrations of anatomical hearts and I love to play cards. What better way to spend my meager tax returns than to support a fellow artist/crafter?

today on etsy!

Today's featured Etsy shop is the wonderful Elloh

From Elloh

I bought this Dwight print for my brother for xmas because he works all alone. This Dwight is now his office mate. I loved Dwight so much that I bought us one for the apartment. Then I bought another one for Jeff to take to work. Lucky me, I ended up getting a free Angela to go with Jeff's Dwight. At $8.50 these wonderful prints are so affordable that you gotta buy one for everyone you know! I love how she takes her favorites in pop culture and makes them her own. She also has rad taste! Oh and she doesn't just have Dwight, I have loved watching the entire cast of both Office series show up in her store. It is like seeing portraits of friends.

Music is a Craft!!!

I love it when Musicians actually make songs about real life. It may be awkwardly revealing about themselves and their friends/loved ones, but it is never dull. Check out this singer/songwriter/musician, Sean Cooney, at seancooney.net! It is not his first record, but (I think) it is his first solo outing. Previous records range from jazz to hardcore/punk rock. His music makes me smile and blush and sigh...happily!

I recommend this song: PRETTY BOY!

Weird Item On Etsy Today

Seller PuppetsAndPals says that you can "Keep an EYE on your car all day long with this PupPet Eyeball antennae ball". Its pretty kooky but I am sure you'll never loose your car at the supermarket again if you use this gadget.

Check out the Etsy shop here!

Big Art Show was FunFun!

It was a long day for the Muntineers at Big Art Show DC. Tina of ilikeseamonsters, Joy of Charming Vices , Sean of Scenic Artisans, and Rania of goshdarnknit, arrived at 3:00 pm and stayed until about 12:30am.

Wow - the Big Art Show organizers provided grids and hooks for us to hang our wares and the Rock & Roll Hotel staff accomodated us at every turn.

Sean and Rania had a great spot right inside the doors on the first floor. They always have such organized displays and use supplemental lighting to catch the eye.

Tina and I camped out on the second floor and we were both pleased with the way we scaled down our displays to the tight quarters. I really wanted to take lots of photos but the batteries in my camera died. Luckily, the first and only pic of my booth was in focus. Who else had fun?
